Under the direction of the Board, the Engineer/Manager or Managing Director supervises all functions including project planning and development, engineering, road and bridge maintenance, fiscal management and budget control, union labor relations, contract negotiations, human resource management. Knowledge of road construction and maintenance is a must. The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge of Public Act 51 and a good understanding of local, state and Federal highway funding and financing. The candidate must possess strong public relations skills in dealing with employees, township, city, state and Federal government officials, business community and the public at large. The Engineer/Manager position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management. Registration as a Professional Engineer or ability to become licensed is required. At least five years’ experience in engineering, supervision and management is preferred. The applicant must possess basic computer skills and a valid driver’s license. The Managing Director position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in public/business administration. At least five years of public works/transportation experience with extensive managerial experience in the public sector is preferred. The applicant must possess basic computer skills and a valid driver’s license. The Road Commission for Ogemaw County has jurisdiction over 835 miles of county roads within fourteen townships. Plus the road commission maintains the state highway system in Ogemaw County via a State Maintenance Contract with MDOT. Salary and benefit package commensurate with education and experience.
