Deputy Director of Waste Management

The ideal candidate for the Deputy Director of Waste Management position will have knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of solid, liquid, hazardous waste management, markets, and the recycling industry, and in administrative management, including budgeting, financial management, staff supervision, and training. Skill in supervising, leading, communicating effectively, understanding interpreting and applying relevant statutes, ordinances, rules and regulations, and in assessing, analyzing, identifying, and recommending solutions to problems is essential.

Manager, Fleet Services

The ideal candidate for the Fleet Services Manager position will have knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of automotive and equipment repairs, gasoline and diesel engines, mechanical and electrical systems, as well as the principles and practices of budget development and administration cost analysis, record-keeping methods, including computer software for preventative maintenance programs and inventory control. Skill in effectively communicating, supervising, leading, planning, coordination, and directing a large equipment procurement, maintenance and repair program, as well as diagnosing and troubleshooting complex maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment is essential.

Butte County Department of Public Works

Comprised of 130 employees that oversee the department functions including Infrastructure Maintenance (roads, bridges, traffic signals and right of way drainage), Engineering and County Surveyor Functions, Fleet Services along with Solid Waste Disposal at the Neal Road Recycling and Waste Facility. The department has an annual budget of $30 million, most of which comes from federal and state sources.

The Department’s Road Maintenance Division maintains 1,300 miles of roads, almost 500 bridges, and 18,000 road signs. The Waste Management Division operates and maintains the Neal Road Recycling and Waste Facility and implements the Countywide Integrated Waste Management Plan waste diversion and recycling programs. The Land Development Division provides oversight of private land development, such as parcel maps, grading permits, drainage plans, and flood plain management issues and serves as the office of the County Surveyor. The Fleet Services Division services thousands of vehicles and equipment for all Butte County departments.
