Dunn County, Wisconsin, Seeks Public Works Director/Highway Commissioner

 

This position entails advanced administrative and managerial work in planning and directing the activities of the Dunn County Public Works Department, which includes the Divisions of Highway, Facilities & Parks, and Transit. Work is performed under the supervision of the County Manager and under policy direction from the Dunn County Board of Supervisors Highway Committee, Facilities Committee, and Transit Commission, and in accordance with all applicable State Statues and County ordinances.

Dunn County has approximately 425 centerline miles of County Truck Highway, 520 lane miles of Federal and State Highways, including approximately 50 lane miles of interstate (I-94) in both the east and westbound directions. The FY2017 budget is approximately $17.2 million. The Department has +90 full, part-time, contracted employees, including a Parks & Facilities Manager and Transit Manager who report to the Public Works Director. The Highway Division includes an Engineer/Superintendent, Patrol Superintendent, and Shop Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Construction Engineering, Public Administration or related field.
  • Six (6) years or more direct experience in management/supervisor and municipal public works operations.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
  • Registered as professional engineer in the State of Wisconsin preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Provides overall coordination and management of repair/maintenance on the highways under Wisconsin DOT jurisdiction including the State and Federal highway system.
  • Plans, coordinates, directs, and supervises the various programs and activities of the department, including the Divisions of Transit and Facilities & Parks.
  • Prepares and administers departmental operating budget.

Salary

The minimum starting annual salary is $77,542.
